Rabbi Avrohom Notis established Yeshiva Meor Dovid in order to provide a place where talmidim can grow and reach great heights in Torah and Avodas Hashem. The Yeshiva is named for the father-in-law of Rabbi Notis, Rabbi Dovid Barkin, who was a Rosh Yeshiva in Telz Yeshiva in Wickliffe Ohio and a son-in-law of Rabbi Eliyohu Meir Bloch who founded Telz Yeshiva in America. Yeshiva Meor Dovid is now located in Lancaster Pennsylvania, where Reb Avrohom serves as the Rosh Yeshiva.
Rabbi Notis has devoted his life to teaching Torah. Reb Avrohom grew up in Telz Yeshiva in Wickliffe Ohio and went on to marry Chaya Rivka, a daughter of Rabbi Dovid Barkin. He also studied in the Yeshiva of South Fallsburg under Reb Eliyohu Ber Wachtfogel, as well as in Brisk and Lakewood Yeshiva. Fondly known also as Rabbi Avremel Notis, Reb Avraham is renowned for his great dedication to each and every one of his talmidim. Alumni of Yeshiva Meor Dovid have gone on to learn in prestigious yeshivos in Eretz Yisroel and elsewhere, while keeping up an ongoing connection with Rav Notis.
Reb Dovid Barkin, for whom Yeshiva Meor Dovid is named, was born in Chicago shortly after World War 2. He went to learn in Telz Yeshiva in Cleveland at a young age where he became very close to Rav Pesach Stein and Rav Mordechai Gifter. In 1967 Reb Dovid went to Eretz Yisroel and learned in the Ponevezh Yeshiva where he became close to Rav Shmuel Rozovsky and Rav Shach. Rav Shach had great affection for Reb Dovid and guided him in all areas of life and Avodas Hashem. Reb Dovid was a beloved Rosh Yeshiva in Telz where he taught Torah for many years and developed many talmidim. Reb Dovid was niftar in 2006 and was buried in Cleveland near the grave of his father-in-law Rav Eliyohu Meir Bloch.
